
Ohio Japanese Speech Contest

Since 1999, JASCO has been hosting the annual Ohio Japanese Speech Contest to promote Japanese language learning in the state of Ohio.
The Contest showcases achievement inJapanese language learning and presents ideas and experiences that promote JASCO’s mission,that is to enrich lives by bringing Ohio’s Japanese and American communities together.
The 26th Ohio Japanese Speech Contest
The 26th Ohio Japanese Speech Contest finals will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Tinkham Veale Center (TINK) of University Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH.

Introduction and Presentation of Japanese Art: The Cleveland Museum of Art's Education Art Collection at ballroom C

Speech Contest Program
Access to the venue and parking lot
Parking Location:
-
Park in LOT 29, located directly behind Severance Music Center.

Do not use the Bellflower entrance, as it is for pass holders only.
2. Entering the Parking Lot:
-
The lot is underground.

Drive up to the parking gate and pull a ticket to enter.

After entering, turn left and go through the hallway into the larger lot (labeled D-H).

Park in any available space in this area.
3. Accessing the Venue (Tinkham Veale Center - TINK):
-
Locate the ramp leading to a set of double doors labeled.

This is the underground entrance to TINK, which is labeled.
4. Finding the Ballrooms:
-
Enter through the double doors and take the stairs or elevator to the 2nd floor.

All ballrooms are located on the second floor.
Eligibility
To be eligible to participate in the 2025 Ohio Japanese Speech Contest, one must:
-
Be 15 years or older at the time of the finals (March 22, 2025)
-
Have learned to speak Japanese through an intentional study
-
Have lived in the state of Ohio for at least 24 months, although not necessarily consecutively
-
Be committed to participate in the finals in person at Case Western Reserve University
-
Participants who are minors must be accompanied by a teacher, parent, guardian, or other authorized chaperone.
Please note that individuals who grew up in a primarily Japanese-speaking environment (family or school) may not apply. Please see the FAQ in the Handbook for more details.
