Two esteemed members of the Japanese delegation sharing a holistic perspective on aging issues in Japan. A speaker from Honda Research Institute presenting groundbreaking technologies designed to enhance human cognitive capacities. Following the presentations, there will be ample time for an engaging Q&A session, offering the chance to dive deeper into the topics and connect with thought leaders in the field.

Speakers Bio

Yuiko NAGAMINE, Deputy Director, Division of the Health for the Elderly, Health and Welfare Bureau for the Elderly, Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, Japan

Dr. Nagamine has worked at Japan’s Ministry of Health Labor and Welfare since 2022, where she works at the Division of Health for the Elderly. Dr. Nagamine holds a bachelor of sociology, a medical degree (MBBS) from Nagasaki University and a PhD in Public Health from Chiba University. She has a Master’s in epidemiology from University College London and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. Before joining the ministry, Dr. Nagamine served as an assistant professor at Institute of Science Tokyo while also providing home and facility-based care to older people and people with disabilities. She has also spent time working as a performance analyst at the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Dr. Nagamine completed her medical training at Okinawa Chubu Hospital, before running a solo practice on Aguni Island, a remote island about 60 km northwest of Naha, Okinawa.

Wataru KASAHARA, Group Leader, Senior Citizens’ Welfare Group, Senior Citizens’ Welfare Division, Welfare Department, Welfare and Children’s Future Bureau, Kanagawa Prefecture

Mr. Kasahara currently serves as a group leader for the Senior Citizens Welfare Division for Kanagawa Prefecture, which is headquartered in Yokohama. Within the prefectural office, his group focuses on issues related to dementia care, including preventative care and long-term care issues, with an emphasis on fostering inclusive communities where people with dementia can age in place. They also carry out work aimed at creating a sense of purpose and fulfillment among older people. Mr. Kasahara has a strong commitment to public service and has worked for the Kanagawa Prefectural Government for the past 20 years. His roles have included working in tax administration and with the international exchange and tourism divisions. He moved to the Welfare and Children’s Future Bureau in 2021 and assumed his current position in 2022. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of English and American Literature from Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo.

Erin Clepper, Research Engineer at 99P Labs | Honda Research Institute USA, Inc.

Erin Clepper is a research engineer at 99P Labs, part of Honda Research Institute USA (HRI-US). In her role, Ms. Clepper is passionate about addressing customer and societal needs through innovative technologies, conducting collaborative research with university and industry partners. Her team's work in Joint Cognitive Systems aims to combine the computational power of machines with human creativity and adaptability, leading to enhanced outcomes. Ms. Clepper strongly values community involvement, and has held volunteer roles within Honda's BRG programs, as well as nonprofits including Random Acts Inc. Before joining 99P Labs in 2018, she received both her Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering from The Ohio State University.
