JASCO’s annual spring celebration, Cherry Blossom Day, held in partnership with Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens on April 5, 2026, was a wonderful success. We were delighted to welcome more than 4,000 guests who enjoyed Japanese culture while appreciating the beauty of the gardens in full bloom.
This year’s event featured a variety of cultural performances, demonstrations, and hands-on activities for guests of all ages. JASCO was excited to welcome Ohayo Sumo Dayton, which presented engaging sumo lectures and live demonstrations throughout the day. Each session drew enthusiastic crowds, and many guests even had the opportunity to step into the ring and experience sumo firsthand with members of the group.
For stage performances, guests enjoyed beautiful koto (Japanese harp) music by Columbus Koto Ensemble and lively awaodori dance performances by Awaodori Ohio, both of which brought energy and traditional Japanese arts to the Conservatory stage.
JASCO volunteers hosted a variety of popular activity booths, including origami, calligraphy, and yo-yo fishing, all of which welcomed a steady stream of visitors throughout the day. The kimono try-on booth presented by Columbus Kimono gave guests the opportunity to wear traditional Japanese summer attire, yukata, and take commemorative photos. Guests also enjoyed a beautiful bonsai display and demonstration presented by the Columbus Bonsai Society.
In addition to the cultural programming, attendees enjoyed delicious Japanese food and sweets provided by Onigiri Musume, Mochi Shop, and Ninja Bowl.
JASCO extends its sincere appreciation to all volunteers, performers, vendors, and guests who helped make this event such a success. We would also like to express our heartfelt thanks to our valued partner, Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, and to our generous sponsor, the Greater Columbus Arts Council, for helping make Cherry Blossom Day 2026 possible.
