Katazome (型染), "stencil dyeing") is a traditional Japanese textile art using hand-carved paper stencils and rice-paste resist to create intricate patterns on fabric. Its origins date back to at least the 8th century, with early examples preserved among the treasures of Nara's Shōsōin repository.

In this hands-on workshop, you'll choose from a selection of patterns designed by a local artist. Using brushes to apply dye, you'll bring your own bandana to life — no prior experience needed, just curiosity and an interest in learning a new craft!
